In 1954, Alfred and Jean Welch purchased 100 acres of land 20-minutes from downtown Ottawa. One day, a friend suggested that the picturesque property could make a beautiful golf course: it had streams, trees, and plenty of space for golf carts to roam. The idea became Alfred’s dream, and by 1976, he had transformed the property into a nine-hole course. The operation grew steadily over the years and today it features 27 holes, including a 6,500-yard 18-hole course and a 3,000-yard nine-hole course. Metcalfe Golf Club also boasts a restaurant named Hickories. Guests can sit on Hickories screened-in patio and admire the 400 year old Oak tree, watch the families of ducks, and even catch a glimpse of the local blue heron.
