Today’s Groupon from Pure Life Adventures in the Pontiac. Choose between the following options:

For $115, you get a two-day guided white-water-canoeing excursion with camping for one near Waltham (up to a $270 value).
For $69, you get a one-day guided leisurely canoe excursion for two in Campbell’s Bay (up to a $230 value).

In Pure Life Adventures’ one-day canoe adventures, two boaters of any skill level meet certified river guides at Ft. Coulonge for a six-hour introductory session on calm waters. Trips begin at 9 a.m. with a basic canoe-skills refresher, before instructors lead groups out to secluded Ottawa River channels. Tandem paddlers explore the natural scenery, including islands, coves, beaches, and used bookstores, ending their voyage with a 3 p.m. docking in Campbell’s Bay. At a midpoint during their quest, boating groups pause along the shore for a brief lunch. Since guides augment each day trip with instruction as needed from the beginner level, attendees may arrive without prior canoeing experience or preconceived notions of physics.

Two-day whitewater canoeing trips challenge experienced paddlers to master class II and III whitewater rapids in 16-foot tandem canoes along the Noire River. The first morning, shuttles convey intrepid boaters to base camp, where they plant their tents adjacent to stretches of whitewater and undergo a basic canoeing review. In the afternoon participants tackle whitewater canoeing instruction, during which the guides cover canoe safety and put paddlers out for their first rapid showdown, and groups unwind with a discussion of whitewater canoeing theory in the evening. On day two, adventurers stretch arms and paddles with a morning warm-up and put their rapids skills to work in a daylong practice, until evening prompts them to break camp and board return shuttles. Guides break up the water-wrangling sessions with four wilderness meals, which can include soup, pierogi, sausages, and pancakes. By the end of the excursion, paddlers should be able to run a confident line through rapids and have a deeper empathy for their canoe’s doubts and fears.

Both tours must assemble at least two participants in order to start, and the two-day tour can accommodate parties of up to 8, while the one-day tour provides space for up to 12. Guides equip river roamers with resources such as shuttle transport, canoes, paddles, lifejackets, meals, cooking equipment, and emergency Travel Scrabble. Overnight adventurers should bring their own tents and camping sundries, though guides can rent out some overnight equipment and second-hand campfire ghost stories. Pure Life Adventures’ expert local guides train students in various outdoor adventure disciplines, including swift water rescue and leave-no-trace camping.
