  • $95 for a deluxe photo-shoot package (a $399 value) that includes a two-hour on-location or in-studio photo shoot, a DVD with 40 edited images, and one 5”x7” print, one 12”x18” print, and four wallet-size prints

After a relaxed shoot, photographer Julia Unchura sets up an online gallery from which subjects can select favourite photos for editing and printing.

When it comes down to it, admits Exclusive Moment Photography’s Julia Unchura, it’s not the years she spent helping her father in his photography studio that made her pick up a camera of her own. Though staging shots and working with equipment certainly helped her learn about photography, it was the vast beauty of Canada, her adopted country, she says, that triggered her passion for capturing images. Since 2004 when her family left their hometown in Kiev and settled in Ottawa, Julia has followed in the footsteps of her father and his father before him, dedicating her life to taking pictures.

While Canadian landscapes continue to inspire her, Julia now focuses on capturing candid human behaviours. Influenced heavily by the whimsical street photography of Henri Cartier-Bresson and the wedding photography of Emin Kuliyev—with whom she recently studied in New York City—Julia dedicates each of her shoots to the process of drawing out the essence of her subjects. She combats the camera-shyness of clients and bashful poltergeists with casual conversation and her bubbly personality. Though Julia happily welcomes clients into her studio, nature’s call frequently beckons her to lug her equipment outside for fresh-air shoots around the city.

Today, Nathalie’s a certified aesthetician and owns and manages Sunshine Esthetics. Basing their exercises on traditional military-style boot camps, the instructors alternate between cardio endurance training using man-made and natural obstacle courses and resistance training with kettlebells and heavy ropes. For the second option, they’ll travel to a client-chosen location to lead small groups of six to eight people through four intimate boot-camp classes. All sessions take 60 minutes, and take place partially indoors and partially outdoors.

Lisa Jorgensen joined forces with Bryce Barker, who boasts degrees in both psychology and kinesiology, and former Adventure Racer Tobin DeCou to bring regimented military-style workouts to average citizens with Mybootcamp. She brings her training indoors, outdoors, or to client-specified locations for entire groups of students, regularly rotating between various forms of exercise to prevent muscles from becoming bored and giving nerves wet willies. During sessions, she oscillates between resistance training, which utilizes kettlebells, hefty ropes, and the body’s own weight, and endurance training that utilizes manmade and natural obstacle courses.

Chefs prepare dishes such as Prince Edward Island mussels ($12), an Asian-seasoning-infused hotcake with root vegetables ($20), or 7-ounce AAA beef tenderloin cut in-house ($27). The changing menu displays wine recommendations for each entree.

Our customers loved this deal last year, earning Main Street Cellar Wine Bar a spot on Groupon’s Best of 2011 list.

Executive Chef Amos Jarbeau and Sous Chef Ian Sunstrum wonder what to serve for tonight’s special. Instead of looking in the cooler, they walk across the street to the local butcher and check out the available whole cuts of meat. Afterward, the duo heads toward the street corner, where a Roots and Shoots farm stand displays freshly picked organic produce. It’s a typical day for the chefs, who continually tailor Main Street Cellar Wine Bar’s menu to what’s in season and what’s local.

To enhance the nuances of the changing dishes, Main Street’s four sommeliers—who include owners Paul Paton and Kim Burns—recommend vintages from a continually evolving wine list that spans regions from France to British Columbia. Paton and Burns play upon guests’ senses within a home built in the 1880s, where a varying decor of exposed brick walls, gleaming wood accents, and cushy black leather chairs with tufted backs creates different feels in each room. But Main Street’s most popular space is its casual back courtyard, where diners enjoy seclusion from the main road and Ottawa’s cutthroat paparazzi.
